Job Description

   Distance Learning Site Coordinator       Valley College (Hourly-Non Instructional)

   Under the direct supervision of the Director of Evening/Weekend College and Mountain Centers, and/or the Dean Career Technical Education, the Distance Learning Site Coordinator will perform the following duties:

 

  • Supervises clerical staff and performs a variety of technical duties at the Mountain Centers.

  • Act as  direct liaison between the community and the college by attending community meeting and membership (as approved) to community organizations

  • Recommends faculty to be hired for Mountain Centers Programs.

  • Distribute course materials, proctor exams, and facilitate discussions and groups instructional experiences at remote sites, under the direction of faculty. 

  • Assist the Department Heads with student and faculty evaluations

  • Assist Student Services with on-site meetings

  • With time and mileage provided, travel to mountain centers for meetings and other purposes as needed.

  • Insure opening and closing of class site(s) and classrooms

  • Ensure that mail in transported from the Mountain Centers to the main campus in a timely manner

  • Ensures confidentiality of student records and information maintained at remote sites.

  • Prepares a variety of reports and correspondence.

  • Facilitate communication between faculty and students.

  • Provide accurate and timely timesheets to the Director Evening/Weekend College & Mountain Centers.

  • Facilitate communication between students and the proper campus offices as needed.

  • Technology:

o       Provide Blackboard, Datatel and other SBVC user systems training for faculty issues such as obtaining roll sheets, grade reporting, withdrawing students, online instruction etc.

o       Facilitate operation of two-way video and troubleshoot distance delivery equipment. 

o       Assist in the implementation of automated systems; recommends processes to be automated; evaluates installed systems.

  • Enrollments:

    • Assist Admissions & Records and Financial Aid with issues pertaining to the registration and Financial Aid packets (e.g. verify completion of submitted documentation as needed).

    • Assist students with online admissions and registration processes including training students to use the SBVC website.

    • Collaborate with the Director and Department Heads on future offerings

    • Collaborate with the Director and Department Heads on future offerings

    • Collaborate with the Director and Department Heads on future offerings as well as provide schedules with dates and times of offerings in a timely manner to meet campus deadlines.

    • Provide enrollment figures and status of each class at the beginning of the semester so that class confirmations and cancellations can be done in a timely manner.

 

  • Other Duties as assigned.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

   Possession of a Master’s Degree or equivalent – Requirement to supervise faculty   One year of formal training, internship or leadership experience reasonably related to the position

   A sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students and personnel, including those with physical or learning disabilities.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS

   One year experience of teaching or supervision

   Some experience with Blackboard, text support, CCC Confer and other conferencing options, Star Panel, visual presenter, and/or connective technologies.

 

Knowledge

   Knowledge of current technologies utilized in distributed education; program planning and evaluation; and local community needs.

 

Ability

   Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct the activities of the programs; communicate effectively both orally and in writing; reconcile divergent views; work effectively with people at all levels of the organization including management, faculty, staff, and students.
